Nintendo just dropped a huge hint that the original Game Boy could be relaunching

Kids nowadays will never know the struggle of the gaming scene in the late ’90s…

Remember the difficulty playing your Nintendo Game Boy in the back seat of the car at night with nothing but the street lamps to illuminate the screen?

Then as a result, trawling through the Argos catalogue for a beastly magnifying lamp attachment for it? And let’s not forget the stress of organising all of your games into those little plastic cases…

Anyway, following the resurrection of the ’90s Tamagotchi and the iconic Nokia 3310, the original Nintendo Game Boy could be making an epic comeback.

A new trademark application filed by gaming giant Nintendo has sparked rumours that the classic games console will be relaunching to coincide with the impending 30th anniversary of the original Game Boy’s release coming up in 2019.

The application for the trademark, picked up by a Japanese bot on Twitter, was accompanied by an image of the Game Boy.

The Game Boy came out in Japan and North America in 1989, before hitting Europe the following year, and was the company’s first-ever hand-held console.

With the iconic handset turning 30 soon and Nintendo’s recent run of re-launching and shrinking down classic consoles like the SNES Mini, the idea of the original Game Boy making a comeback doesn’t seem too far-fetched…
